Fleetwood Macchiato is a new hipster hangout in Erskineville, which ventures into territory dominated by the landslide of Thai restaurants like Thainatown and Thairiffic. From the outside you’ll notice the clean wooden exterior and inside it’s definitely a cosy affair, but the service is great, the coffee was really good, and their official website is a Tumblr account.
Nuff said, check this one out next time you’re in the area. Puns are back in fashion.
Cuisine: Brunch, lunch and coffee.
Price:$5-$15 for lunch menu items.
Most likely to see: Newtown rebellers, ironic band t-shirts
We had:
Smashed egg breakfast roll with mustard aioli, sriracha, pickles, ham, avocado and mushrooms ($14.50): This roll packed a flavour punch. The combination of ham and smashed egg is a winner, but less visible from the photo are the mushrooms and avocado. The sourness of the pickles balanced everything out and were so good, I think Halloween’s costume idea has just been sorted.
Roasted mushrooms & egg on house made corn tortilla with achiote butter ($12.00): The tortilla was fresh, and the egg and mushrooms made it a great breakfast dish, although overall I preferred the taste of the roll.
The final verdict: It’s true that we’ve spent alot of our blogging life in Surry Hills, but places like Fleetwood Macchiato remind us that great cafes exist outside of Crown Street. It also reminded us that there is a place within the food community for good puns … like The Beastie Boysenberries, Puff Pastry Daddy, Bruno Mars Bar and Frank Ocean Trout.
